Duo Ruut from Estonia are, as the name suggests, a duet. Two women performing in a very special way, almost intertwined like musical Siamese twins.
They stand on either side of the same Estonian zither (looks like a harp) and play the very same instrument together, drawing sounds from it as if it were a full orchestra. Their voices blend so seamlessly that it is hard to hear where one begins and the other ends.
Their music is rooted in Estonian folk traditions, yet the sound feels fresh and contemporary. It could easily be brand new pop performed acoustically.
