New this year at G! -- Cash-free sales, plastic-free service and a deposit-return system

The times they are a-changing, and G! Festival is changing too! Find out what you need to know here.

Several exciting changes are coming to the G! Festival this year. The organizers hope to set an environmentally friendly example for other festivals by working to reduce plastic waste as well as making things simpler and cleaner across the board.

Plastic-Free Service

Guests will see far less plastic on the festivalgrounds this year. In its place, they will be served with plates, bowls, cups and cutlery made of reusable or renewable materials, such as glass, wood, and paper. Gist og Vist, which runs many of the drink and food stalls at G!, has made this a priority and worked with the festival organizers to make this the greenest festival yet.

Deposit-Return System

The first time guests order a drink this year, it will cost an extra ten kroner and be served in a glass. They will get those ten kroner off the next drink when they return their glass. This is also an opportunity for conscientious festival-goers to make a few extra kroner by gathering and returning any glasses they find lying around! They will be given ten kroner per glass in cash or on your Meira av tí góða (MATG) gift card*. Turn six glasses in, and you'll get a free beer. Turn in seven, and you'll get a free cider. Everybody wins!

Cash-Free Sales

Gist og Vist is also trying to reduce the use of cash to make sales safer and faster for everyone. At their food and drink stalls this year, you will be able to use all major credit cards or one of their Meira av tí góða (MATG) gift cards* to make your purchases. So you can worry less about counting strange coins and hiking over to the ATM, and more about having a great G! Festival.

* Interested in getting your very own MATG gift card? There will be a stall on the festival grounds where you can convert cash into one of these cards, and you can top them off online at http://www.meiraavtigoda.fo/. Any money left on your card at the end of the festival can be spent at any Gist og Vist location in the Faroes, or returned to you in cash.
