G! Festival tests all guests ahead of the festival for free

The G! Festival organizers are doing everything in their power to host a safe festival. Health institute, Thetis, has been asked for assistance, and they have offered to test all festival guests for COVID-19 for free before coming to the festival.

On Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 5 pm in the festival week, G! guests can get a free COVID-19 test while receiving their festival wristband in SMS in Tórshavn, Losjan við Gøtugjógv, and 10-11 am at Vágar Airport. These are so-called screening tests where it is possible to test a large number of people in a short time.

“We take safety seriously and have taken precautions to minimize the risk of infection at the festival”, says Sigvör Laksá, CEO of the G! Festival.

This means that all festival guests older than 12 must get tested before the festival – including those who have been vaccinated or have had COVID-19. We have had an excellent dialogue with the health authorities during preparation and are thrilled that ‘Thetis’ is willing to assist.

The G! Festival is also using a new ticket/access system with electronic wristbands. This means that if a person is tested positive for COVID-19 before the festival, their wristband can be disabled so it cannot be used to access the festival. The person is notified and their ticket is refunded. If they are tested negative, they will also be notified via SMS later the same evening/night and they are clear to come to the festival.

Because of the extra precautions this year, the camping ground will not open on Wednesday as usual but Thursday the 15th of July at noon. The reasoning behind this is to ensure that all guests on the camping ground have received a negative test result before the festival starts.

Show a negative COVID-19 test to buy a ticket at the entrance

It is possible to get a wristband at the festival entrance if you have not received it on Tuesday or Wednesday before the festival. All you need is to show a negative COVID-19 test that is no more than 72 hours old.

You can get tested at the usual sites across the country found on www.corona.fo – but Thetis also offers G! guests free tests Thursday and Friday from 10-12 am at their facility in Tórshavn, Losjan við Gøtugjógv, and at Vagar Airport. So you should probably get tested the day before you plan on attending G! as you usually get your result later in the evening or night after your test.

International guests must self-quarantine for 4 days

For international guests, the public recommendations apply – to get tested on the 4th day after arrival. This means that to go to the G! Festival, international guests should arrive in the Faroe Islands at least 4 days before the festival and show a negative test on the 4th day after arrival. This also applies to those that have been vaccinated.

The electronic wristbands also give greater safety for indoor spaces such as the indoor stage, Fjósið, the media room, and backstage. Visitors check-in and check-out, so it is possible to establish who was in the room and when – in the same way, we know from written check-in for visitors to elderly care homes, etc.

This makes it easier to track and prevent potential infections from spreading.
