Thursday Night at G! Festival

The first night of the 2019 G! Festival was misty, cool, and filled with Faroese summer magic.

Did you shut down Fjósið? Did you sweat in the sauna? Did you hear the greatest stars on the Faroese music scene play each other's music, with Eivør channeling Guðrið and Marius channeling Greta? Do you have sand between your toes?

The first day of G! 2019 is over, and it was a thursday to remember. The stage on the sand opened for the year with a unique and moving performance by the most cherished local artists of the Faroes, who played tributes to one another's music. Eivør, Marius, Greta Svabo Bech, Guðrið Hansdóttir and Høgni played together as the crowd filled the beach and the street above.

Phlake returned this year to the Faroes for another fantastic set, while on the playground stage, Faroese Jasmin and Danish Noah Carter brought the crowd up to a boil. In the barn, the year's most hard-core acts, Iron Lungs, Zhrine and Baest, had a tightly packed crowd moving to a heavy metal beat.

The last concert of the night was the Belgian group SHHT, who took the playground stage as the mist began to rise off the mountains. We'd love to describe their concert... but words would do it no justice. Just look at the pictures.

One great night down, two more to go!
