Ásgeir

We are delighted to welcome Multi-instrumentalist and Icelandic singer-songwriter ÁSGEIR back to the G! Festival!

Ásgeir is to date the artist who has sold the most in the history of Icelandic music, surpassing giants such as Björk and Sigur Rós at home.

Winner of four titles at the 2013 Icelandic Music Awards (Best Pop / Rock Album, Best Newcomer, Public Choice Award and Icelandicmusic.com Award), it is estimated that "In The Silence", his debut album, has been sold to a tenth of the entire Icelandic population.

The story of the new album, “Bury The Moon” - or “Sátt”, to give the album its Icelandic title - starts with a broken heart and an escape.

After the end of a long relationship, Ásgeir feels the need to spend time in solitude and get lost in the boundless Icelandic countryside. Retiring to his summer vacation home, he spends the entire winter in the company of his guitar writing and composing the songs for the new album, giving voice to his reflections on love and loss.

After bringing his ideas to the studio, he gathers his travelling companions to work on his music.

The lyrics of “Bury The Moon” are again by the poet and father of Ásgeir, Einar Georg Einarsson.

The translation of the text was entrusted to John Grant, an American singer-songwriter residing in Reykjavik.

“Bury The Moon” is an intimate and intense album in which Ásgeir accepts his own imperfections, giving life to his most extraordinary work.

"I wanted to bring the project back to its roots, in a certain sense, and make it more honest: real songs with strong melodies and lyrics"
